It can get pretty quiet during the summer...TMC just isn't the same without the whole family here! And for any of you who had the opportunity to visit campus this summer, you know we have had alot of changes. A few things to admire on campus are:

remodeled dorms (living it up in Hotchkiss!)

new sidewalks and green grass (perfect for walking down to brunch with the whole wing and the lawns are great for studying)

new TMC fountain (right outside the Admissions office)!

But the best change of all is seeing our new students finally here and having way too much fun during WOW. Ahh, life must be hard for them as they hang out at the beach, relax at professors' homes for dinner and run down the slip and slide...all before classes begin next week!

We really are so thankful for all of the students God brought to The Master's College this year. The Admission's Office is excited for everyone who is coming and it should be a blast as you start your time here at TMC.

It is also hard to believe that we are half way done with the school year. The Master's College starts up on the 22nd of January and gets done on May 11th. As most of you know we are already looking forward to our fall 2007 students who are coming too.

Don't forget to leave a comment if you have a question about the college!!!

Half way Around the World.

What an amazing adventure. I'm not in California anymore that's for sure! What a neat an amazing God we have. This is my first time out of the counrty (except for Puerto Rico and Canada but they don't really count! ) It's so amazing to me how God makes everyone so unique and there are so many different cultures and ways of life for people. I can't believe i'm here representing Christ and The Master's College. I can't think of a better thing to represent. The past 2 days Lisa Lageorge (Director of International Minstires), Gary Edwards (Director of Financial Aid), and I (Director of Admissions) have been in Manilla, Philippines. We've been at Faith Community School and have had a great time. We're getting ready to go to their chapel in a few minutes where Lisa will be giving her testimony. We've gotten to talk to numerous students and Gary is doing a financial aid presentation for some parents this afternoon. There are about 650 students at Grace with 10% being Business, 30% korean, and the rest missionary kids from the US. They have been very hospitable and great. After Gary's presentation this afternoon we head for the airport and board a plane to Bangkok for 1 day.
So many fun and amazing adventures we are on. There are so many students who are eager to get back to the states and continue on with their education and it's been great getting to share with them the possibilities of making that happen. What a blessing it has been to come and minister to these people.

East Coast Driving Tips

Just a few friendly tips...

1. Beware of semi trucks! They do not drive in the slow lane like they do in California. Yes, that's right, they drive in the fast lane and trust me, they do go fast.

2. It is illegal to talk on your cell phone and drive on the DC Beltway.

3. The Beltway goes North, East, South, and West. Who would not be confused by this?

4. Pull up closely to toll booths because if your quarters miss the basket, you can't get out of your car to pick them up.

5. Some roads have names as well as numbers and some maps only mention numbers while some internet directions only mention names. Know both!

6. HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle) lanes = Carpool lanes in CA.

7. If you think LA traffic is bad, you have never been to the DC area during rush hour. Just picture the same amount of LA congestion traveling at about 50 mph. No wonder they have a speed dial number to call for accidents. Of course, you are not allowed to use your cell phone. I see a problem here.

I'll let you know if I come across any other helpful tips! Happy driving!

The Fall is here...

Well, at least it is here in Maryland. I have the privilege of having the East Coast as my territory and not only that, I get to travel there in the fall! As some of you know, Southern California does not have much of a fall so it is very exciting to travel East during the changing color of the leaves.

After about 45 minutes of printing and a one-inch stack of paper of all my maps for this trip, I was prepared to leave. My flight was a little delayed, but not too badly. My rental car is a fabulous minivan which I hope to turn in for a smaller car when they get more. I will be here for two weeks - one week in Maryland and Virginia and another week in North and South Carolina. If you are in the area, please come out and see me at the different college fairs. I'd love to talk to you about Master's. I was also able to make quite a few meetings with different schools and churches so hopefully, I will see you there.

I'll do my best to keep you updated and display some pictures of the beautiful East Coast!

sweet home, santa clarita

There is something so sweet about flights home. What a trip (4 1/2 hours on the 20 East)! It was a pretty drive, with lots of green trees to enjoy and of course, Waffle Houses and Cracker Barrels to stop and taste. The South just isn't Southern without these famous places to dine! I stopped at a Cracker Barrel and just loved the friendly hospitality! I had a few extra minutes to peak at the gift shop, too. Too cute...ok, back to the fair...

It has been such a great week getting to meet students and their families and sharing about The Master's College. As a former student of TMC, I am able to tell others how God used our college to teach me about Him. He did this through the classes, through chapel and through so many believers I lived with on-campus. I must admit it was a little scary moving from home into the dorms, but I am SO THANKFUL for the time I could spend as a student at TMC. God used my roommate and the leaders in the dorms to display His grace and sovereignty over my life. I love being able to tell others about my experiences in the dorm (Sweazy dorm, that is!). Where else do you get to live with 80 other Christian girls? It was really a sweet time in my life....I think a tear is coming...ahh, love those dorms!

I think people have been surprised that I have come to Georgia all the way from California. I count my job as a blessing, to travel and tell people about our school and the amazing ways the Lord can use TMC in their lives, too.

Today I am headed to The Church of Macedonia, in Jackson, Georgia. I am so excited to meet some of the high schoolers tonight at Youth Group. It's about 2 1/2 hours away so better get traveling! I hope you have enjoyed reading about our trips! I'll be back with more pictures (by the way, I REALLY wanted to get a picture of me standing half on Alabama and half on Georgia but didn't want to risk my life breaking on the middle of the freeway...I know, it's silly, but a thrill for me!).

beautiful birmingham

Today was my first full day in Birmingham, Alabama. There are too many to count and I know that I have a few more to go. But it has been fun to travel in the beautiful state of California.

Last night, I was at Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, CA. It was fun to meet the students there. I talked to quite a few who knew students that attended Master's and I graduated with the brother of another one of the students. They also had great cookies! I have had the great privilege of being able to travel up in Northern California this last week in Redding, Sacramento, Auburn, and Walnut Creek. (I am sorry that I can't add pictures yet, I forgot to buy batteries for my camera.) I was born and raised in Northern California in a small town called Potter Valley. So it was close to my home.

Well, right now, I am in San Jose, CA. I just completed a fair at Valley Christian High School which sits on a hill overlooking the city. This school's student body (1200) is slightly larger than Master's (about 1100). It was a great fair and I met a lot of great people!

I started driving to San Jose from Santa Clarita at 10:20 am and I arrived at 3:40 pm. It was a long day and my eyes are a little tired, but I wanted to let everyone know that the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile is on the move! It was spotted heading south on I-5. Random, huh! But I do wonder where is it going?

Anyways, I am going to be in Watsonville, Modesto and Fresno the rest of this week. If you're nearby, come by and see me at my different fairs! I would love to tell you how great Master's is!

Travelin', Travelin', I'm just Travelin' thru...Ohio

Well, as Sarah said in the last post, travel season has begun at The Master's College. My name is Jonathan Holmes, and I am currently traveling in the great state of Ohio. I normally do not travel like the other counselors but plan the different events here for prospective students like College View Weekend, Mondays @ Master's, and regular campus visits. However, the Midwest Counselor, Shannon Ong is currently in Texas.

Last night I visited Dayton Christian School in Miamsiburg, Ohio in the afternoon along with several other schools. That night I went to Fairhaven Church for the first NACCAP college fair in the Ohio circuit. The fair was a blast, and I got to meet so many students. Being the only California school represented was a good thing and a bad thing. A lot of students in the Midwest are looking for schools in the area as opposed to coming out to the West Coast. If you are a prospective student from the Midwest or the East Coast, I definitely encourage you to check us out...we are only a plane flight away :)

This afternoon I visited Worthington Christian School in Columbus, Ohio. Tonight I head to the second college fair on the circuit. If you're in the Columbus area, come visit us!

PS- If you are thinking about coming out to visit the college- sign up as soon as possible for our Fall College View Weekend at www.masters.edu/vw. We are going to Disneyland this year, and it's going to be fabulous...don't miss out on this awesome opportunity to visit Southern California and The Master's College. GO BUCKEYES!

let the travel season begin!

Leaves are falling, wind is blowing and school is back in session. New students have arrived at TMC and settled in after a week exploding with welcome. They had way too much fun! Returning students were able to reunite with roommates and friends at the college's welcome back party while enjoying good music and ice-cream...what's not to love? Ahh, makes me remember my days as a student...so, what does all this mean for the Admissions Office? It's TRAVEL SEASON! With schools back in session, Fall is officially loved and known as our office's time to visit high schools, colleges and youth groups around the country (and one sweet day around the world...hopefully!). We attend college fairs to spread the word that The Master's College is the school you want to attend if you are looking for a Christian college that upholds biblical truth and has fun during the process of studying and living with other beleivers. It's the place to be, which is why the counselors always look forward to returning home to our Admissions family here at the college.

Last week was the kick-off of travel season as I spent time in Northern California. Praise the Lord for their growing student body and killer sports teams!

Did I mention I grew up in the Sacramento Valley? As an alumni of Wilton Christian School, I am always glad to return to NorCal, as so many people have nicknamed the area with stickers on their cars. Since I was in the area, I was able to visit my family in Herald, California...a booming population of 900...make that 901...I came to visit!

My trip took me to Santa Rosa Junior College for a college transfer fair. With over 30,000 students (that's right, 30,000!), I was able to meet people interested in attending our school. The Master's College is a bit smaller than this school (we have about 1000 students...ok, it's alot smaller), but I was able to emphasize the intimate fellowship students share in the dorms and in the classroom. Did I mention we are able to go to chapel on-campus three times a week?

My next visit was to Windsor High School for a college fair. This was Windsor's first fair to host and they did a fantastic job! There were so many great students and parents to get to know and talk to about TMC. Were you at the fair? What did you think? Have you checked out our website yet? I hope you had as much fun as I did and I hope you call our office to learn more about TMC!

As you can see, the gym was packed with students getting information about colleges all over the country.

The next morning took me to Napa Valley Junior College for a transfer fair. There were many students there attending classes and able to grab some TMC info during their breaks. I was able to spend time with a few students particularly interested in going to a Christian College, especially after hearing about our Biblical Counseling Program.

I ran into more than college students at the fair that morning...

It appears peacocks were interested in learning more about college, too. They were very friendly.

I made my way back to beautiful Santa Clarita, California and I am back in the office until my next trip to Birmingham, Alabama and Augusta and Jackson, Georgia. Be on the lookout for more details and pictures from our trips. I speak for all the counselors when I say we love our college and being able to tell others about TMC. Helping you apply and arrive on-campus is a blessing we look forward to! Early Saturday our staff came on campus to train the new interns that will be helping us this year. Why is this worth a Saturday you might ask? Because while we are out traveling they are going to be covering for us. I am super excited for this years group of students and hopefully if you come visit you will get to meet some of them and see how much fun they all are.
